PlayNovation, LLC

Play Science research now provides us with the basis for new products, services and technologies to make widely accessible the many benefits of play. Partnering with Stanford University, the National Institute for Play and others, PlayNovation LLC develops proprietary play science technologies directly applicable to individual, corporate, educational and health and social service enterprises.

Our clients have included Google, eBay, PayPal, Microsoft, Kraft Foods, Mattel, Hasbro, Coca-Cola, Los Angeles County Mental Health Services, Waldorf Schools, Alberta Canada Regional Education Consortium, AARP, and the United States Navy Strategic Warfare Consortium. Presentations have included the Renaissance Weekend and Aspen Ideas Institute among many other venues.

One of a number of projects we are currently focusing on to spur innovation is the development of PlayNovation Play Science Institutes in Asia. Another project focuses on play technologies to moderate the symptoms of autism and ADHD. And yet another project measures the integration of play in a variety of environments. We have been collaborating with the US Department of Education to bring Play Science and play-based methodology and curriculum into the classroom.

As our services pertain to education and play-based technologies, PlayNovation provides live and on-line consultations from pre-school through grade 12 programs as well as at the university levels. We develop curricula and teacher handbooks to incorporate play, most recently with our Natplay: Nurturing ADHD Talents Through Play Science program which is seeking federal SBIR funding.

We travel throughout the US, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia to provide seminars and workshops for teachers and educators on play-based curriculum, its development, and provide coaching for teachers to identify and develop their own play-based methodologies for field and classroom applications. As part of these services, we offer play-deprivation assessment technologies and individual and collective amelioration plans.

With the generous sponsorship of IPEMA (International Play Equipment Manufacturers), and in collaboration of the National Institute for Play, our PlayNovators have been instrumental in developing the first “Play Encyclopedia,” collating Play Science research by noteworthy Play Scientists, which will soon be published independently on the web with a link on this website. This research provides the information needed for the practical application of play-based methodologies in education, corporate innovation, healthcare and social services.
